Set the documents, lot codes, and handoff data each side provides. Northstar’s DC receipt and three store transfers stay the buyer’s own record. Add unlimited suppliers at no additional cost.

Why we want to partner

Buyer requirements needsupplier and receiving proof.

Large buyers set their own data and evidence requirements, industry groups align product data, and supply-chain rules call for verification, not just collection.

What a buyer asks for

Walmart asks its food suppliers to share lot or batch codes, date codes, and where each lot code was generated, and to send an advance ship notice with traceability data for every delivery, linked to the pallet’s SSCC label.

A buying network can ask for more than the legal minimum. Suppliers need to know exactly which identifiers and handoff data travel with each shipment.

Shared product data

The GS1 US Retail Grocery Initiative brings retailers, wholesalers, and suppliers together on open standards to improve product data, supply-chain processes, and traceability.

Identifiers only help if both sides record them the same way. A product identifier names the item; the lot travels only when a lot-bearing barcode or the shipment record carries it.

Verification, not collection

Under FDA’s preventive controls rule, an applicable supply-chain program verifies suppliers through activities such as onsite audits, sampling and testing, and review of the supplier’s relevant food safety records.

A collected document still needs review against the requirement, a decision, and follow-up. Requirements differ by ingredient, supplier, and buyer.
